Radon

Why is Radon a concern?

Radon is estimated to cause thousands of lung cancer deaths in the U.S. each year. In fact, according to the Surgeon General, RADON is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States today.

Testing your home for radon is the best way to know whether or not you and your family are at risk. Radon testing doesn't take much time, and is relatively inexpensive.

The EPA recommends:

  • Test your home for radon -- it's easy and inexpensive.
  • Fix your home if your radon level is 4 picoCuries per liter (pCi/L) or higher.
    • Radon levels less than 4 pCi/L still pose a risk, and in many cases may be reduced.

To find a licensed radon tester or contractor in Ohio, please call 1-800-523-4439.

Home owners may perform tests on their own homes, but the laws regarding radon in Ohio do not permit ANYONE to perform radon testing for a client in a real estate transaction or any other situation, without a license to do so. Beware of seller's who have performed their own tests. Although not against the law, this is a conflict of interest during the time period of a real estate transaction. Experience has shown that 100% of the time, a seller's test is always below the USEPA recommened action level of 4.0 pCi/l.
